    Transition Info

    When is this happening?

    The legal handover of ownership from the Utne Institute to The New Café will occur on February 27, 2006, and the same day we will move the whole thing to new servers.

    We plan to start the move at about 1pm EST/10am PST. The move to the new servers should take about 4 to 6 hours but possibly up to 12 hours. During that time, the New Café will be inaccessible. Once the move has been completed, though, the whole New Café will be available as it has always been, only at a new location.

    How will The New Café be different from Café Utne?

    Initially, the only changes you'll see will be the name and web address, from cafeutne.org to newcafe.org. Everything else - the discussion forums, the Motet software, the look and feel of the site - will be the same. How the New Café evolves in the future is up to us - all of us who care about keeping this vibrant online gathering place going. We welcome you to share your ideas for the future of the New Café right now in the Ideas for the Café forum.

    Will I have to re-register?

    No. Your existing Café Utne username and password will still work just fine in the New Café .

    What will happen to all my old posts?

    Nothing. All your posts in the Café will still be there, in the same topics and forums where you put them, and you'll have the same ability to hide or erase them as you've always had.

    The Utne Institute will hand your donations over to the New Café for awhile, but we are asking all of our current recurring donors to please switch to our new PayPal account.
