I have not checked the rules but I think his replacement would be appointed by the governor. If so, I would not be surprised to see Byrd voluntarily resign, he is not just old, he is pretty feeble physically, although he still has more marbles than Georgie boy ever had. I am hoping that Callahan gets tapped. Our last governor, Bob Wise, had some girlfriend problems and is unlikely to be "the man". I don't know of anyone else that would be as good. Shelley outspent Callahan but barely made it through. I think he would beat her statewide in a senate race, especially if he was an incumbent.
