Oceans, Seas and Maritime photos

Togetherness. The way to live.

{Photography.74.1033}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 27 Feb 2013 18:43:28 EST (4 lines)

My heavens, look at all the skyscrapers. I was there some 35 years
ago. The view from Diamond Head was much different back then.

Is that pink hotel still on the beach?

If you look at the first bend in the beach there is a low rise
building. Just past it is a high rise. If you look closely you can
see the pink. The Royal Hawaiian, The Pink Palace of the Pacific.
The big one is Sheraton Waikiki.

Royal Hawaiian ... yes. I couldn't remember the name of it.

The last time (okay, the only time) I was there, I stayed at the
Holiday Inn that was pretty much the last hotel on the strip before
you started going toward Diamond Head.

Sheraton had taken over several, including the Palace a few years
ago. They had the S Waikiki, the Ala Moana (oldest one there) and
Ala Moana Tower right there in a bunch. Now there are so many
that "Name it" Waikiki may be two blocks or more from the beach.

Nice place for a meal. Everything in and around this booger is pink, from the pink chain marking the property line, the lounges, towels, soap, bath robes, bathrooms. It was a pleasant stay.

I only saw it from the outside. I'd love to stay there!

It's nice. When we were at the Ilikai we had a suite on the front
with two balconies. I acted like someBODY. It was also real nice.

I was in Ucluelet, British Columbia earlier this week, on the
western side of Vancouver Island. This was the view from my balcony
at 5 a.m. The moon hadn't yet gone to bed for the day.

And in the daytime ...

Nice views.

It was lovely. It was also chilly, but I still slept with the door
open (it was at the foot of my bed) so I could hear the ocean.

Like them a lot! Specially the second one - and I envy you listening to the ocean as you dropped off to sleep.

Ucluelet is wonderful. I stayed in Tofino a few years ago, just up the road.

Man, its been almost six years now..

We drove through Tofino, I believe. (We follow route books, rather
than maps, so we're usually not sure exactly where we are.)

Tofino is straight up the coast from Ucluelet. Roads dead-end there (out on a peninsula)

I rounded up some of these 35s from our honeymoon. The Speaker hasn't changed a bit.

Got an email with a slide show of the reef. Couldn't find the same
one on line, but these two seem quite nice.

If you copy and paste the top one, less the " marks, it works.

The bottom one is really lovely.

Curses. They are purty.
