SUNRISES |
{Photography.103.1}: annie {oceanannie} Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:05:30 EDT (11 lines)

This was the first one of the year. By the end of December, the sun rises about 1" away from the edge of the building, so we get about 5 minutes of sun in the bedroom for a few weeks. By February, it's moved a bit. When I had to rise at 5.40 a.m. it was easy to check for nice effects, but now....only around the change to DST am I and the sun up around the same time, 'cept by accident. Mine are all filed at 1000 pixels (to look nice on my desktop) - and the colours are better if they come via photobucket at full size. This one is 800 pixels from the files. February 20/08

Would that be caused by what I have heard called Lake Effect? It amazes me that a lake can effect weather so much that is has a name.
{Photography.103.16}: annie {oceanannie} Sun, 27 Apr 2008 11:08:21 EDT (7 lines)
Lake Effect is usually a term used when there is going to be a heavy snowfall - i.e. poor Buffalo suffers from it a lot - and often up here on the lee side of the lake....The clouds over the lake usually stem from the south side, and come over a bit, sometimes a lot, and on the shore you get to see a lovely sky, but from 4 km away, you don't see more than a fairly narrow strip unless they are headed way to the northwest.

Personally {and I know this is not a popular opinion} I think most
sunset photos are rather boring. Sunsets are one of the most overdone
of all photographs. Occasionally, you get one that's especially
spectacular and well made, and it inspires people to go out and try to
duplicate it, resulting in a plethora of badly exposed, crooked,
ill-thought-out pictures of power lines with the sun behind them.
Here are some sunsets from flickr. Notice that very few are just
pictures of the color of the sky.

They are all very beautiful anyway....

I said it wouldn't be a popular opinion...
