The U.S. Military

You know my stand on that, Barry.

I want a strictly defensive military, and our occupying forces all
over the world brought home.

But unfortunately, we have become a nation dependent on war to keep
our economy afloat. Human life, especially that of people who are
different, is inconsequential to the pursuit of riches for a small
segment of population. The war machine's appetite is insatiable, as is
the greed of it's operators.

If we redirected our efforts from the expansion of the empire to
research and development of new energy sources, new methods of
transportation and the fight against disease, we could develop new
technologies that would make us a real world leader instead of just
barbarian conquerors. But this has all been said before, much more
eloquently than I can.

Human evolution has a long way to go before we will be able to give
up our wars. The few of us who see the futility in it all are a
barrier to profits for the many for whom human life is of no
consequence, and will not likely see our dreams realized.
