Yep. I met my atheist friends at church. Seriously. (They're Unitarian
Universalists)

As for catholics, I tended to associate the Catholics I knew with more
liberal social causes, even with the strong antiabortion stance. But
as Andre noted, they aren't a huge force in the South.

(I always appreciated the consistancy of the Catholic position. They
are  - officially - anti-abortion AND anti-death penalty. Makes more
sense than the Baptist anti-abortion, pro-death penalty. )
