Yes and the K-car cemented ugly. But I too like Chrysler. Maybe because my folks owned Plymouths and Chryslers.

Jil thanks for the viddie, I hadn't looked at it when I posted above. I'd say Chrysler has just leaped right past GM. I love the little Dodge. But in these parts the Jeep will be a big hit. The Minivan should score high everywhere.

150-200 miles on electric -only? That's pretty impressive. Especially given the Volt's short 40-mile range. That makes the Dodge EV a true commuter for large metro areas where one-way drives can be in excess of 60 miles. It also beats the crap out of several contenders for the automotive X prize, who haven't even beat the 100-mile mark without going hybrid.
{Wheels.16.127}: Jil {rabbit} Tue, 23 Sep 2008 22:53:28 EDT (2 lines)
If they can match that 200 miles with an extended range gas engine, it's a winner. You need the backup that doesn't need a plug.
{Wheels.16.128}: T.J. McGovern {tj2} Wed, 24 Sep 2008 00:21:25 EDT (4 lines)
I probably won't live long enough to be able to drive a real EV with a practical range and an affordable price. I wonder how many old guys got the same feeling when the first cars were showing up, and all they could afford was the mule...
{Wheels.16.129}: McKenzie K. Musick {mckenzie} Wed, 24 Sep 2008 00:38:32 EDT (2 lines)
Come on T.J. you aren't that old. Good God Man I'll come and get you and we can go to the big city of Phoenix and rent one in about a year.
{Wheels.16.130}: T.J. McGovern {tj2} Wed, 24 Sep 2008 00:56:18 EDT (4 lines)
I don't want to rent one. (I don't really want to go to Phoenix either, except maybe for a couple of cactus league games.) I want one for under $20 thou that has air and a GPS, and enough range to get me to Flag and back at 75 MPH.
{Wheels.16.131}: Doug White {dwhite} Wed, 24 Sep 2008 10:32:38 EDT (1 line)
And he wants a pony. :)
{Wheels.16.132}: McKenzie K. Musick {mckenzie} Wed, 24 Sep 2008 11:14:50 EDT (5 lines)
You don't no freakin GPS to get to Flag. And furthermore what cost $20K last year will cost $30K next as our dollars buying power shrinks. So get on up to Holbrook and wave at the world roaring by on I-40 then turn around with firm knowledge that it ain't worth the effort. You are gettin old. Snap out of it.
{Wheels.16.133}: T.J. McGovern {tj2} Wed, 24 Sep 2008 11:56:12 EDT (9 lines)
I want a pony! But unfortunately, the CCRs say I can't have one. I could board it with a neighbor who has three horses (Our CCRs don't apply to her)but I don't want the expense either. I guess I don't want a pony after all. The GPS isn't to get to Flagstaff, its to find the Target once I'm there. I know, Flag is all on one road and all I have to do is drive back and forth until I see it, but I just love to hear "You have reached your destination."
{Wheels.16.134}: McKenzie K. Musick {mckenzie} Wed, 24 Sep 2008 15:43:46 EDT (11 lines)
ha hah my sister in law driving a rented car with GPS was routed into a culdesac and got that message "You have reached your destination." I gotten to where I don't want a motorcycle either...the insurance on mine is about 450 a year. For some reason ( price of gas ) I just couldn't make myself go on rides just for the fun of it. I doubt If I rode 500 miles so far this year. $1 a mile just for insurance. A pony might cost about the same what with room, board and vet bills. I think I'll shoot my motorcycle.

Updike obviously didn't own a cool car.

They're decent little vehicles. It's a Corolla under the skin.

Does my gas buying strategy make sense?: - When I think that prices are going up, I fill up the tank thinking that it will cost more in the future, - When I think that prices are going down, I don't fill up the tank thinking that it will cost less in the future.

If you add up all the savings you accumulate during the year you could probably save more money by skipping two meals at a fast food restaurant that same year.
{Wheels.16.142}: Allen {greenal} Wed, 19 Dec 2012 14:14:11 EST (HTML)
When you need gas, never fill up, but always spend the same number of
dollars. When gas is cheap, you'll be buying more, and when it's
expensive, you'll be buying less.
{Wheels.16.143}: Jil {rabbit} Thu, 27 Dec 2012 07:42:00 EST (5 lines)
A full tank of gas also uses more fuel to move around, ironically enough. Glen, your strategy is simply the gasoline version of playing the stock market. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

It doesn't do anything. I don't have the info at my fingertips, but it's just another in a long line of fuel fixes that don't work.

For those that are seriously interested I would suggest this forum...
So far I just lurk and learn. I did buy a Scan Gauge II to play with
and observe the effect of my foot on the pedal around town.
