A happier one ... possibly because she had, outside of any realistic odds, managed to grab the brass ring? ;-)... though that was short lived considering the further consequences to her life.

That comment of the author struck me as a bit odd as well. It wasn't much after that that she killed herself, if I'm not mistaken.

You are not mistaken cardo --- first her adult son died of overdose
and then she also died. Battling the entire time for *what she was
owed* with the 'first family'. She was far over her head --- a short
marriage of a stripper to a 90 year old didn't morally warrant the
estate. Greed did her in--- she was offered millions to go away but
she wanted 100s of millions. Legally she was probably in the right but
pragmatically she should have settled. Overweening greed from both
sides ---- she lacked the ammunition and it cost her life.

I'm not at all clear on how Anna Nicole Smith, or her weight
issues, came into this conversation.

A picture link and two comments Tom -- it does tie in to the topic
even if only peripherally. More relevant IMO than most drift.

Also, it is the birthright of every Glen on this good Earth to show up, unannounced, at any time of the day or night, dragging beside us the most slovenly airheaded excuse for a Woman we can possibly salvage from the Discount Drugs dumpster, and that is just the way it must be.

Note to Glen Marks: Hey, Bro, I got your back!

Anna Nicole Smith is a perfect symbol for the cancer stage of American capitalism of which Michael Moore is (and was in his film) so critical. In her eating habits she was a complete pig, consuming a huge basket of Kentucky fried chicken in one sitting, and then polishing that off with candy bars. As a young woman she was somewhat flat chested, but soon corrected that problem so that she could become more marketable as a hustler extraordinaire.

A.N. Smith is just another example of "ONLY IN AMERICA."

drugs and even push them into crime.

Concerning my earlier post on capitalism and success:

- The crippling of individuals I consider the worst evil of
capitalism. Our whole educational system suffers from this evil. An
exaggerated competitive attitude is inculcated into the student, who
is trained to worship acquisitive success as a preparation for his
future career.

When it comes to getting answers to your questions about the
economy, doesn't the following prove that capitalism turns
everything into an auction?:

At most it "proves" that there are some *versions* of capitalism turn
things into auctions.

Why the hell should some mathematically naive economics professors
get to decide what capitalism *has* to be?

capitalism is therefore a political problem and not an intellectual one
that community action remains so essential.

- Capitalism is not about free competitive choices among people who are
reasonably equal in their buying and selling of economic power, it is
about concentrating capital, concentrating economic power in very few
hands using that power to trash everyone who gets in their way.
