Once Upon a Time...

ooh ouch. The ones that were around when I was a kid (ca 1931-45)
were ghastly too. Though I must admit that the dentist I went to in
Windsor Ontario back in the early '70s was a miracle worker. He was a
very big man horizontally, his grandparents were people who came north
on the underground railway (facts I learned later). His equipment was
just like what I suffered in the '30s, but I was desperate. I am
saying without a shadow of a lie, that his work was totally and
absolutely painless. How he did what he did with the old-fashioned
drill that once would have nearly killed me with pain, I will never
understand. I asked him how he managed it. He pursed his lips and
rolled his eyes stereotypically, then laughed and said "It's my ju-ju,
that's all, just my ju-ju". I went to that man for nearly 4 years and
from those days onward, my teeth have had almost no need for nasty
things. His ju-ju lives on, bless him.
