I recommend getting a little terminal wire brush for about $2 to keep
in the glove compartment with a wrench or pliers.  Often, no jump is
needed after brightening the connecting surfaces and tightening the
clamps.

If you need a jump due to drained battery, letting it sit in a
discharged state will shorten its life, possible to zero.

Time to recruit a local buddy!
