It is something to do with the part where you put the key in the car to start the car the contact is broken he had to change that part.
{Wheels.3.939}: Jil {rabbit} Fri, 18 Apr 2014 19:13:23 CDT (6 lines)
Ah - the ignition. It's not making contact with the starter circuit, then. It is odd that it broke on a car that isn't that old. Do you put a lot of keys on your ring? If your key ring's too heavy, it can be hard on it.
{Wheels.3.940}: Periwinkle Slowtzer {periwinkle2} Sat, 19 Apr 2014 03:37:31 CDT (13 lines)
No there is only the car key and one other key on it and a very light key ring. Also he apparently replaced it with a golf volkswagen one and not a Suran volkswagen one as the golf one is made of alluminium while the one of my car is made of fibre which is says is not strong and this one will last forever. He said he had to programme it as it has something that locks the steering wheel. I hope he knows what he is doing and the steering wheel wont lock up while driving :( as I did not take it to the agent. Can I believe what this guy is saying do you think? Mechanics here are not what they are abroad ....

Yes, some of them need to be programmed. It's a theft prevention system. Keys have microchips in them. When you insert and turn the key, the chip "talks" to the car's system. If you try to use the wrong key, the car won't start. The ignition also locks the steering wheel in place when you shut off the engine and remove the key. You'll notice that if the car is shut off and the key isn't in the ignition, you can't turn the steering wheel. This is also a theft prevention system.

Here's a question: There was a time with my 07 Altima where I would frequently have problems with warped rotors. At that time, I was also setting the parking brake whenever I parked my car (mostly out of habit from driving a manual). Ever since I stopped doing that, I've stopped having issues with warped rotors. Is this possible?
{Wheels.3.943}: Joe Gordon {darmund} Sun, 03 Aug 2014 14:48:30 CDT (36 lines)
For reasons having to do with having literally ZERO money and lets leave it at that mainaitance on my Acura CL has been limited to putting gas in it for the past 3 years. However I haven't been driving it very much it all and then only on very short trips usually well under 10 miles. Anyway I was going to go out the other day got in the car, turned the key and literally EVERY light on the dash light up and all I get is a clicking sound. I'm guessing it isn't the battery since the radio and lights work, but I dunno maybe related to oil or lack of it. I bought a bottle a few months ago and after measuring and finding NOT VERY M<UCH on the dipstick thingee poured it in. Could this be a case of burning off the oil? If I add in a couple more cans could I get the car going? And can we please spare the "DON"T YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE OIL BLAH blah!!" Yes I do know that. But I also have no insurance the car hasn't been inspected or registered and my license is expired and presuimably suspended. I have ZERO money to get anywhere near remedying ANY of those things so please don't. I know I'm a horrible person blah, blah. It wouldn't be so bad but I'm about two miles from the nearest shopping center and while my landlord has been pretty nice, when I was talking over the rent situation last month the word "Lieing" was used by her in reference to me, this after i had laid out the details of my various car issues, minus it not starting which she doesn't know about. If it IS the oil is it going to really mess the car up if i try and get it jump started?

Do not add excess oil to the engine or you will ruin the main seal and
enjoy a leak for
the rest of the time you have the car.
{Wheels.3.945}: Joe Gordon {darmund} Sun, 03 Aug 2014 15:19:43 CDT (1 line)
Ted, is that advice for me? If so thanks.

Today, you're it!
;-)
{Wheels.3.947}: Joe Gordon {darmund} Sun, 03 Aug 2014 18:28:59 CDT (6 lines)
Thanks Ted. I hope that's it, talked with my landlord and maybe if I remind her I'll get a jump start in a couple of days She's a bit flighty sometimes. The battery is new, relatively speaking, no buildup or gunk on the terminals. Will report back later. Thanks again Ted.

If you need a jump due to drained battery, letting it sit in a discharged state will shorten its life, possible to zero.
Time to recruit a local buddy!

<<There was a time with my 07 Altima where I would frequently have problems with warped rotors. If I add in a couple more cans could I get the car going?>> Lack of oil will result in an oil light coming on, but the engine will run. Your problem is electrical.

Thanks, Jil. I figured that that was what was happening.

No more late-braking into freeway off-ramps for you, Joe! Good excuse to trade up to cross-drilled and vented discs. Heh.
{Wheels.3.952}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Sun, 10 Aug 2014 13:14:48 CDT (3 lines)
LOL. I'd suggest it's a design defect. But, what do I know?
{Wheels.3.953}: Periwinkle Slowtzer {periwinkle2} Mon, 11 Aug 2014 14:26:32 CDT (7 lines)
Well after taking the car 2 months ago to the agency to maintain the car, the air conditioner compressor has burnt out. They were supposed to have changed the a/c filter. What causes an A/c compressor to burn out?? Apparently the oil ring fell out of something that has a belt on it not sure what that is called is that the compressor? Of course the a/c is not working. Any ideas what all this is about will have to send it to the agency to fix -- another expense aghhh.
{Wheels.3.954}: Jil {rabbit} Mon, 11 Aug 2014 15:35:24 CDT (10 lines)
I replaced the compressor on my truck a little while back. They're generally the most expensive component of the air conditioning system. It's operated by a belt that drives it off the engine. A/C works when refrigerant is continually pumped through a closed system that alternately turns it from a liquid to a gas, which causes it to become cold. The compressor compresses the liquid and turns it into a gas. There's oil inside the compressor to lubricate it as it runs, so if the oil leaked out because of a missing oil ring, the compressor will fail.
{Wheels.3.955}: Joe Gordon {darmund} Mon, 11 Aug 2014 22:34:12 CDT (3 lines)
Got the battery jumped and let the car run for about 1/2 an hour yesterday then started it again today. Started up fine. Now to get some oil.
{Wheels.3.956}: Periwinkle Slowtzer {periwinkle2} Tue, 12 Aug 2014 09:05:45 CDT (8 lines)
So it must be that oil seal that was not good so the oil leaked out and burned the compressor great!! I last took it to the agent on 19 May this year and they changed the A/C filter and filled it with freon so it is a bit much that something like this happens don't you think? I paid a lot of money for the last maitenance and the car is only 6 years old do you think I can get them to put a free compressor in the car as this looks like they did not do the last maintenance properly.
{Wheels.3.957}: Jil {rabbit} Tue, 12 Aug 2014 16:00:47 CDT (4 lines)
Maintenance service wouldn't look at the oil ring in the air compressor, though. That said, a compressor should last more than six years.
{Wheels.3.958}: Periwinkle Slowtzer {periwinkle2} Thu, 14 Aug 2014 08:27:46 CDT (3 lines)
So far I have had to change the whole gear box, now the compressor and even the ignition on a 6 year old car WOW. Time to trade this in and get a new car.
{Wheels.3.959}: Jil {rabbit} Thu, 14 Aug 2014 08:37:21 CDT (2 lines)
There's something very much wrong with it. All that shouldn't go wrong.
{Wheels.3.960}: Periwinkle Slowtzer {periwinkle2} Thu, 14 Aug 2014 11:57:17 CDT (4 lines)
It is odd and they are not sellling this car any more in Egypt. I wonder if they are still selling it in Brazil or Argentina or wherever it was being sold when I bought mine. Will have to read up about it on the net to see what I can find.
