Thanks, Kai. The Automotive 101 now links to the forum home page. And thank you, Michael, for all the work you've put into the topic.

Grand, but what I had asked for (I hope) is that the *"car questions and answers"* topic be linked there, so that Auto 101 *wouldn't* be getting a lot of car questions. <sigh>

Yes, this should be read-only; I guess that didn't happen when the forum was reintroduced. Michael, my impression was that you wanted Automotive 101 linked. My apologies.

PLEASE NOTE: Cafe Utne goes Dot-Org! Domain to change from cafe.utne.com to cafeutne.org on May 3 We're pleased to announce that Cafe Utne, the groundbreaking online discussion community we founded in 1995, is about to become part of the new non-profit Utne Institute. The most visible change is that the Cafe's domain will switch from cafe.utne.com to cafeutne.org. The Cafe will be inaccessible for several hours during the day on Monday, May 3, while we make the switch. Please get ready to update any links to the Cafe in your browser favorites. Apart from the domain change, you won't notice much else different. The Cafe will continue to host discussions of articles in Utne Magazine, and literally thousands of other conversations started by our members. But the Cafe, as well as Utne Communities, our online community-building program, will now belong to the Institute. We are also looking at creative ideas to make the Cafe more of a resource to the larger progressive community. One of the best things about this change is that your financial contributions to Cafe Utne will now be tax-deductible. This does not apply, unfortunately, to your past donations. But any new donations you make to support this vibrant community will count as charitable contributions. For more information about the Utne Institute and how to support the Cafe, see http://www.utneinstitute.org/ Please keep participating in the Cafe, and if you haven't been there in awhile, we welcome you to stop by again. Sincerely, Leif Utne, Senior Editor, Utne.com Kai Hagen, Director, Utne Communities

It has been brought to my attention that while I have posted this in other places I may not have posted it in here, which is the first place I should have posted it. I'm trying to reduce the number of forums I host. I have been host in wheels, really only as a backup to jil, who is an excellent host and really doesn't need me. However, as a matter of polciy and common sense redundancy, it's nice for a forum to have at least a couple of active interested hosts, so if anyone in this forum is interested in taking my place a sco host of Wheels. Please email jil and I and let us know.

As you may or may not have heard, Don Friedkin, who was manager of the Cafe, has stepped down from that position due to his health. Information on the position will be posted as it's available, and I'll let you know when and where as I get more information myself.

A new forum is opening: {AfterHours} You need a place to go where the lights are always on, where you can always find soemone to talk to. This is the place for nighthawks to perch for a while. No matter what your time zone, come in after dark and talk about late-night music, midnight snacks, shift work or just what the stars look like. In the wee small hours of the morning, that's the time you'll love it most of all.

There is voting in place to elect a new board for the Cafe. Instructions for casting your vote by email can be found through the link at the top of each page.

Dan Griffith, a longtime participant at the Cafe and one of the board members, has passed away suddenly. His wife Suzanne was also a very active participant. Dan's last posting was today. He collapsed and could not be revived. There is a memorial forum set up at {In_Memorium-Dan_Griffith.1.1-} if you would like to visit.

There's an election, for anyone who would be interested in sitting on a work group to help with the Cafe's administration. You can find it through the banner at the top of the screen, just below the logo.
