I just got a press release saying that Toronto is getting its first public biodiesel filling station.
{Wheels.10.2}: Doug White {dwhite} Thu, 26 Feb 2004 10:55:16 CST (1 line)
Would you like french fries with that biodeisel? ha ha.
{Wheels.10.3}: Jil {rabbit} Thu, 26 Feb 2004 11:05:28 CST (1 line)
English cars can get fish 'n chips.
{Wheels.10.4}: Doug White {dwhite} Thu, 26 Feb 2004 11:14:46 CST (6 lines)
Seriously, I think that would be a great sales gimmick if they also sold food (some or all of which was previously fried in the biodeisel precursor)! ...until the first time somebody using faulty reverse engineering logic goes home and tries to fry fish and potatoes in gasoline.
{Wheels.10.5}: '85 VW Vanagon; '89 Mazda 323 {patrice} Thu, 26 Feb 2004 12:03:32 CST (7 lines)
Well, people that dumb should just hurry up and do that and reduce the surplus population. --Ebeneezer Scroogetrice -------------------------------- After you eat your fries you could wash your hands with the glycerin soap by-product of biodiesel production.
{Wheels.10.6}: Kurt Gubrud 1/4 mil on 86 Toy {kurtgg} Sat, 28 Feb 2004 09:04:24 CST (2 lines)
I guess you can tell what they fried in the oil by smelling the exaust! But do we want hunger pangs while waiting in traffic?
{Wheels.10.7}: '85 VW Vanagon; '89 Mazda 323 {patrice} Sun, 29 Feb 2004 01:04:44 CST (2 lines)
well, it smells like someone burning dinner, so that shouldn't get anyone too excited ;-)

Depends on what you're used to.

Posting:Nook.208.375 Update: I didn't get the 850 out - rain was threatening - but I did rise the LA Free E-bike this evening. It seems to have made it through the Winter unscathed. I can never ride less than about three miles on that bike, and it's usually more like 10...
{Wheels.10.10}: Nigel {nigel} Sun, 02 May 2004 12:59:48 CDT (6 lines)
I was worried that my pusher trailer's battery may have suffered from being stored out in an unheated but insulated pole barn over the winter (because of construction, the garage's contents had to be moved there). But, it seems to have survived just fine. I rode to town and back on a day with 20+ MPH headwind on the way in that required heavy use of the motor, and I didn't notice any loss of power or range.
{Wheels.10.11}: Jil {rabbit} Sun, 02 May 2004 14:17:59 CDT (2 lines)
My batteries get left out in a pole barn all winter and so far no ill effects.
{Wheels.10.12}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Sun, 02 May 2004 15:48:36 CDT (2 lines)
As long as they are kept charged above 80%, cold weather won't hurt them.
{Wheels.10.13}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Sat, 08 May 2004 03:14:23 CDT (7 lines)
Man, I would *love* to have this car. It's a '71 Opel GT - the 'poor man's Corvette' of the '60's - that had been converted to electric power. 65mph, range 80 miles. It needs new batteries. It has no rust. It has a beautiful interior. It uses no gas.... "http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2476603 474"
{Wheels.10.14}: Doug White {dwhite} Mon, 10 May 2004 11:54:50 CDT (4 lines)
Cool! I wish they had posted some photos of the electric motor/battery compartment. Put in a bid, right now it's still not ridiculously priced...
{Wheels.10.15}: Jil {rabbit} Mon, 10 May 2004 14:22:19 CDT (1 line)
I'm off tomorrow to a GM presentation on fuel cells...
{Wheels.10.16}: Doug White {dwhite} Mon, 10 May 2004 14:40:31 CDT (1 line)
Do you think they will have one there for you to see/drive?
{Wheels.10.17}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Mon, 10 May 2004 16:34:39 CDT (4 lines)
They did post pictures of the battery compartments. The motor was hidden under the batteries in the nose. I *almost* bought it, but its non-running, no-warranty status, plus having to borrow about $7500, stopped me. <sigh>
{Wheels.10.18}: Doug White {dwhite} Mon, 10 May 2004 16:37:14 CDT (5 lines)
I'll have to look closer at those pics. My friend doing the truck conversion has paid over $6K for parts alone (we're doing the assembly labor and necessary battery tray/motor mount fabrication), so it's not a bad price.
{Wheels.10.19}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Mon, 10 May 2004 16:42:23 CDT (1 line)
Yes, the kits run about $6k, the batteries about $1-2k.
{Wheels.10.20}: Jil {rabbit} Mon, 10 May 2004 19:58:16 CDT (3 lines)
<<Do you think they will have one there for you to see/drive?>> I'm not holding my breath. It's a luncheon at a downtown hotel.
{Wheels.10.21}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Mon, 10 May 2004 22:30:47 CDT (3 lines)
I really wish that they'd get cracking on 'plug in hybrids', that can function as real EVs for short trips (like up to 20 miles), and only run the IC engine for longer or faster ones...
{Wheels.10.22}: Ted Hurst {thurst} Sat, 22 May 2004 02:05:19 CDT (9 lines)
Someone over on The Motley Fool - Retire Early Home Page shared this with the energy oriented posters. Thought I'd make a token contribution by passing it on. I enjoy reading you folks here... Toyota Alessandro Volta http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/volta.html

31.75 mpg isn't bad for 435HP, but I'd prefer something a bit more frugal and slow...
{Wheels.10.24}: Ted Hurst {thurst} Sat, 22 May 2004 13:13:20 CDT (3 lines)
Yeah, I'm more at the cruise control stage of life. What I'd really like is a Dick Tracy/Diet Smith anti-gravity Vanagon...
{Wheels.10.25}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Sun, 23 May 2004 03:45:05 CDT (3 lines)
I want them to build a new Volvo Amazon, with full comfort and safety features, and a 120HP electric motor. No, I won't be holding my breath.
