Photography on the Web |
{Photography.4.1}: Kai Hagen {kai} Thu, 17 Jul 2003 01:40:49 CDT (6 lines)
This topic is for sharing URLs to varied and worthwhile web galleries, and other sites about photography and photographers. Let's keep this topic mostly free of photographic equipment and supplies-oriented retail sites, which will be more appropriate in a separate topic.

{Photography.4.6}: Diane Hamilton {dianeh} Sun, 20 Jul 2003 11:58:06 EDT (12 lines) Did you know the you can upload photos to the weather underground site? http://www.wunderground.com/ I uploaded some during the winter. When you do it you include your zip and then when people are looking for weather for that location, they can click and see photos of the area too. I was wondering if I could link to the image from here because so many places now on the web don't let you link images. The picture I posted of the lighthouse in another topic here is actually one of mine that's on the weather underground site. I wasn't able to right click on the picture and copy the shortcut but I was able to find the url when I looked at the page source.

I've got a password from them that I've never used. But then, I may be the only person in waynesboro who might look at the photos I put up there. (only 16,000 people in the whole county)

Look what I found. You can search for a digital cam that matches your criteria. http://www.acme.com/digicams/

I still want a big zoom. :-( none there, at least with lots of megapixels.
{Photography.4.12}: Which Hazel? {hazel2} Fri, 01 Aug 2003 01:30:13 CDT (2 lines)
You can get an Olympus 5050Z (I think that's the number) which has 5MP and a 10X zoom. I think it's around $800 list.
{Photography.4.13}: Elizabeth Basch {izbit} Fri, 01 Aug 2003 09:46:49 CDT (4 lines)
That's what I've just ordered -- it's going for $600 at Amazon and J and R. But the zoom is only 3x optical, with the rest digital. The optical zoom is the only one that really matters, because the digital zoom just lets you crop while you shoot.
{Photography.4.14}: E Lakin {elakin} Fri, 01 Aug 2003 11:22:37 CDT (3 lines)
the pentax optio 450 and 550 offer 5x optical zoom. and olympus 730,740,750 all offer 10x optical zoom.
{Photography.4.15}: Which Hazel? {hazel2} Fri, 01 Aug 2003 12:35:18 CDT (4 lines)
Only 3X optical? I didn't realize that the Olympus 10X wasn't optical. Yeah, that isn't much zoom. Digital zoom is for the birds - it's not even a good "crop" because the camera doesn't enlarge with as much quality as a good software program.
{Photography.4.16}: Q for Kai (or others) {hazel2} Sat, 02 Aug 2003 13:09:04 CDT (11 lines)
Kai, when I sent you the rock formation image, I noticed immediately that the color saturation in my email carbon copy was very washed out compared to the original image in Photoshop (which is very colorful!) It occurred to me that it could be because of the color space I'm working in in Photoshop. Have you noticed this discrepancy with your photos? What Photoshop color space are you working in? I'm frustrated with not being able to get the color saturation I see on my Photoshop screen (which is a fairly accurate representation of the image) to translate to the email and Web. Any advice?
{Photography.4.17}: Kai Hagen {kai} Sat, 02 Aug 2003 15:01:17 CDT (HTML)
I don't understand that question, Hazel?

{Photography.4.19}: Which Hazel? {hazel2} Sun, 03 Aug 2003 00:29:07 CDT (3 lines)
The "color space" in Photoshop is a type of color calibration. You can choose to view your color the way Adobe sees it, or the way Apple sees it, or a few other ways. But anyway, never mind. ;-)

My own digital gallery: http://www.albany.net/~mjc1/Galindex.html A local Business/Education coalition wants to use some of the images, so I guess it's pretty good. Or at least pretty cheap.

Micheal good pictures thanks.

At last report one could use the photography museum's pictures as wallpaper on the computer. I had the Golden Gate one up for months once. It is one of my all-time favorite sites. and they still don't seem to mind if you set one of their pictures as windows wallpaper.
{Photography.4.24}: challenge anyone? {willpage} Sat, 16 Aug 2003 00:24:09 CDT (8 lines)
http://www.dpchallenge.com is a very cool site. Basically each week they select a challenge. The challenge can be topical, technical or anything. They have pretty tight rules about the kinds of post- processing you can do. After the deadline for submissions the photos are available for all to see and they are judged on a scale from 1-10. The winners get no prizes per se, but you get some excellent feedback and discussions on technique and what-not. Plus the wide variety of entries are often quite amazing. enjoy

Thanks for that link, Will. That is a neat site! I love to look at the images on sites like this, to see how people visually interpret something. Here's another one I visit, this one for Fuji cameras. I don't have a Fuji camera, but they take good pics and some of these are excellent. http://www.fujimugs.com/challenge/
