The 20 Year Car

========

{Wheels.17.68}: Bianca R. {lily1} Tue, 31 Dec 2019 09:34:11 CST (12 lines)

Wondering how many more years that Saturn got...

Our Volvo V70 will be 10 years old in a few months, has less than
90,000 miles on it at the moment. Great car, no serious problems. I
wouldn't mind getting another 10 years out of it if possible.p

The only annoying thing is cosmetic. The paint or coating or whatever
it is on the steering wheel is peeling off and it looks like crap.
Have no idea how that can be repaired. Certainly not worth replacing
it, but it truly looks terrible.

Other than that, it has been a great car for us.

You can buy leather steering wheel covers for a few bucks, might
improve the appearance.

Yes, that might be the solution. Tricky to get the fit right since
there are large spokes on the wheel, but might work.

I used that leather wrap years ago on my Datsun 310. Felt like I was
really stylin'! Those were simpler times...

Is it a leather-wrapped wheel? A vinyl repair company might be able
to fix it for you.

Partly leather, partly hard plastic with some kind of colored coating.

You can see that the leather part, while dirty (sorry!) is fine, but the
coating on the plastic part is all peeling away.

A bodyshop might be able to repaint that.

Might be worth a try. The services dept at the dealership said they
couldn’t do anything, to my surprise. I thought they would have the
correct matching material.

No. It has to be stripped and repainted.

Ah. Well then...will try to find a good body shop.
