If you don't heed my request I'm shutting this topic down and
deleting every one of your posts that contain only links and no
content. You are adding nothing here.

How hard can it be to put something in your posts that indicate why you are choosing to provide the link? It seems as if you are just linking and not thinking and it would be nice to get some sense of the reason you think something is interesting or why you are posting what you are posting.
It is not too much to ask Glen, especially when you create an entire
new topic and all you include is a link. That isn't the least bit
helpful.

>>>find another forum Tom, he already has. He spams any number of forums and topics. I find it very annoying. I don't give a rats behind what's on TV and will not register for the NY Times.

I have a concern about "flying insects." I had a beautiful front porch built for my wife. The problem is that she refused to sit on it and enjoy the beautiful summer evinings with me because of flying insects. She insisted that I install a "Bug Zapper" to reduce the annoyance of "flying insects." I installed one and she still rarely enjoys the porch. My question is, Am I doing harm to the "Natural Balance" by employing the "Bug Zapper", or am I just providing toasty snacks for Toads and other "Creatures of Nature." Please share your opinions. Thank You.

Why not just screen in the porch, and avoid the need?
{Nature_and_Environment.71.14}: Tom Elliot {telliot} Mon, 11 Jul 2005 13:49:37 CDT (HTML)
I second the vote for screening in the porch.

How about bat houses as well?

Liz said, """Why not just screen in the porch""" That may be the next step. Tom said, """Bug zappers kill flying insects but they tend to be the least harmful ones and don't help with mosquitoes or other pests. Plus, what fun can it be to sit on a porch in the weird blue glow of the zapper and listen to bugs dying?""" I have found that it does a great job on mosquitoes. AMOF, the primary reason my wife suggested I install the Zapper. She worries about west nile and other illness (we have Grandbabies who ofter rock on the porch with Papa) Call me weird but I find the "blue glow" rather serene, so long as you don't stare at it. I think Bats are Natures great Bug Zappers! I wonder if Bats enjoy toasty treats?

I think bats prefer their meals in flight. I wouldn't think a family consensus was necessary to install bat houses, you're not adopting them as pets! With the boxes high enough they can do their job and, unless you're watching for them, you'll never kmnow they're there.

Laurie, While I commend your committment to Natural Alternatives, I respectfully decline your advice on this one and oped at the present time for the modern technology alternative. I do this for the sake of Family Harmony. You don't know my family. We are very Democratic and would not even consider such an undertaking without at the very least a general consensus and of course approval from Neighbors and our Community Zoning Board. LOL
