Self Portraits

--------

{Photography.34.1}: Coyote {coyote} Sat, 01 Nov 2003 12:35:08 CST (16 lines)

I really like self portraits. They reveal an essence of the individual
that doesn't ordinarily show itself otherwise.

Recently, I've been taking a lot of pictures of myself, having been
inspired by The Mirror Project. If you're unfamiliar with that site,
go to www.mirrorproject.com. I click on the little Random button
over and over and over and am endlessly fascinated.

I used to think it was narcissistic to take pictures of myself. I no
longer think that. I now consider it an art form.

Another amusing self portrait site is The Photo Booth Cronicles.

I hope you enjoy those sites and are inspired toward creative
guilt-free self portraiture. It's fun!

I took this picture of myself on Halloween night, with the help of
the mirror in my upstairs bathroom. I was bored while
waiting for trick-or-treaters to arrive. The powdery stuff on
my eye lids is some of the make-up I used as part of my
pitiful costume. For whatever reason, I was lacking my
usual Halloween fervor.

Here's one I'll probably submit to The Mirror Project. This is the
wall of mirrors on the west side of our house. You can see
my hooded head in one of the mirrors, partially concealed
by the camera.

I like both of those. The reflected camera in the second one is
quite cool.

The chances of this private person posting a self-portrait on the
internet are zero. ;)

I'll be you couldn't recognize me in person, given the photos I
posted here.

Come on, dude! You can creatively conceal yourself :-)

Perhaps a burkha.

Good idea!
Here's another one I might send to The Mirror Project. In the
middle of the half-price Halloween goodies, I found a table full
of clearance kitchen items. Here I am, reflected in some
sort of helpful utensil, hiding from the evil, vampire Pooh!

Fun.

Nice eye!

Great wall. I want to take a tour of your whole place!

That's a store, Kai! Her place has the plastic body parts ;-)

I know that last one was a store! :-)

The wall I referred to was the mirror wall.

Oh OK! Yes, that is some house! Maybe when my granddaughter is a
couple of years older, Coyote will let us come over on a field
trip :-)

Darn! I'm getting the evil X again :-(
I'll try it a different way.
When you come visit, you can sleep in our 1959 ChrisCraft
guest house, complete with a heated water bed in the v-berth,
which you get to by walking the path past the bowling ball
garden and the Barbie Car planters.

I was wondering if that was your house.

I want an outrageous yard too!

I love it!

If you like that, you might want to take a look at our latest project:

Okay, after this it's someone else's turn!
This is me in our unfinished, upstairs bathroom. Some day, it'll
even have a shower! There's a shower downstairs, but you
have to climb into a clawfoot tub to use it. Most of the year
it's warm enought to shower outside by the hot tub, but it's
so cold right now that I could cut glass with my nipples ;-)

I love the Mother Nature and pet Dragon sculptures!!

I should find you pictures of our 10- and 15-foot robot sculptures
made out of kids toys. In the mean time, here's something
relatively easy to make. It's one of my favorites, a shoe tree:
