Welcomes and Introductions |
{Wheels.2.1}: Jil McIntosh {rabbit} Mon, 23 Feb 2004 07:32:17 CST (20 lines)
Welcome to Wheels! As we mentioned in the old registration-only forum, this new forum is available to anyone who wants to come by and read about our favorite subject -- anything with wheels. Whether it's cars, or trucks, or motorcycles, or bicycles or tractors, this is the place to talk about it. If you're new to the forum, and you're here as a guest, you'll be able to read what we're saying, but not join in the discussion. There is a link above so that you can join if you want to be part of it. It's no charge and we'd love to have you come in. We've been talking about cars for a while, and we have our old discussions archived. You'll see links to them. There's a great topic where Michael explains how cars work, and discussions on biodiesel and other fuels. Feel free to read them, and then continue talking about them here. Welcome!

Here's the post announcing and describing the change in {CafeNews}:
{CafeNews.33.5}: Kai Hagen {kai} Mon, 23 Feb 2004 23:31:41 EST (HTML)
As of a few minutes ago, the {Wheels} forum has been reborn as a guest-accessible forum. The forum that was "Wheels" is now archived as the {Wheels.Old_Wheels} forum. It is read-only now. All posting will be in the new forum.
Please note, however, that, even though the new {Wheels} forum is guest-accessible (meaning people can read there without registering for the Cafe, but need to register to post), the {Wheels.Old_Wheels} is not visible or accessible to unregistered visitors.
{Wheels} .........................Rolling, rolling, rolling...
{Wheels.Old_Wheels}.....The original Wheels forum (read-only, no guest access)

Maybe I'm just dense, but it took me a while to figure out that I needed to change my hotlist to get HERE. ...a better (assuming there was any) explanation at the newly archived topic for already registered users (whose hotlists were automatically changed) would help. Same thing for Nature and any other topics that went public.
{Wheels.2.4}: Daniel Hagerty {captainbill} Tue, 24 Feb 2004 12:08:49 CST (1 line)
Can we ditch the BLINDING WHITE BACKGROUND, please?
{Wheels.2.5}: Frank Vehafric {fvehafric} Tue, 24 Feb 2004 13:41:22 CST (6 lines)
Hey, we haven't even upacked the furniture yet. Yes, We thought the hotlist link would be updated to the new forum, but alas, not. You have to dump "old wheels" and add "wheels" again. But you already know that now.
{Wheels.2.6}: Jil {rabbit} Tue, 24 Feb 2004 15:06:25 CST (1 line)
Can we go back to the old forum and do that, Frank?
{Wheels.2.7}: Frank Vehafric {fvehafric} Tue, 24 Feb 2004 16:25:37 CST (1 line)
Jeez, I don't know.
{Wheels.2.8}: Frank Vehafric {fvehafric} Tue, 24 Feb 2004 16:27:04 CST (6 lines)
You have to use the edit hot list feature to remove a forum from the hot list. Then, use th edrop down forum list to get to "wheels" (this will be the new wheels) and then, if wheels is not on your hot list already and "add to my hotlist" box will appear right near the hosts' names.
{Wheels.2.9}: {patrice} Tue, 24 Feb 2004 18:08:40 CST (14 lines)
I left some code in Hosts for the banner. I just went up to may address bar and backed over the ".Old Wheels" to get in here, then I clicked "add this forum to my hotlist" at the upper left of the homepage...but I'll have to go to SETTINGS, edit hotlist to get rid of the archived forum on my hotlist (after I catch up in postings.) So, we're starting from scratch-- not having the last 5 posts or something as a starter, huh? Guess that would make them guest accessible without the poster's knowledge, so not cool. How about when re-opening a topic, people link into the last dozen posts in the first new post. {Wheels.Old_Wheels.topic#.-12-} would do that. Only registered Cafiends could follow the link, and the rest of us would get context.
{Wheels.2.10}: Patrice B. {patrice} Tue, 24 Feb 2004 18:24:56 CST (3 lines)
I notice you guys have added a handful of topics, each with at least one posting, but nothing is showing up as "new" on my Hotlist next to {Wheels}. Hrmm.
{Wheels.2.11}: Frank Vehafric {fvehafric} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 00:25:17 CST (2 lines)
Hrm. I can link topics to archived topics in th eheader for those topics which seems relevent, or for which I have a request to do so.
{Wheels.2.12}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 08:33:25 CST (1 line)
Any decision on changing the background color?
{Wheels.2.13}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 09:03:08 CST (2 lines)
Frank, can you do that? They want some RGB or somesuch -- it's not like picking out colors at the paint store.
{Wheels.2.14}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 09:13:02 CST (1 line)
heh! no, it definitely isn't.
{Wheels.2.15}: 92 SVX, 59 TBird, 68 F250 {fvehafric} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 12:34:40 CST (3 lines)
Tell you what. Give me a topic number someplace in the cafe whose background color you like and then I'll change it. Better than farting around till I get it right.
{Wheels.2.16}: Daniel Hagerty {captainbill} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 13:17:39 CST (7 lines)
Thanks, Frank. The standard "grey" of Café Utne is, I think, fine for this. The RGB values are Red 238, Green 233, Blue 233. If you need that in HEX, which you probably do, it's #EEE9E9.
{Wheels.2.17}: 92 SVX, 59 TBird, 68 F250 {fvehafric} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 13:40:09 CST (1 line)
How's that?
{Wheels.2.18}: Daniel Hagerty {captainbill} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 13:50:00 CST (1 line)
Perfect!
{Wheels.2.19}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 13:52:58 CST (1 line)
Excellent! Thanks, Frank!

(all you had to do was go to the Old Wheels forum and click the "HOST" button, then you could see what the numbers for colors in the old forum were/are. Just for future reference.)
{Wheels.2.21}: Doug White {dwhite} Wed, 02 Feb 2005 10:12:44 CST (4 lines)
Jil, are you going to enable the new motet photo attachment feature in this forum? Maybe at least in one topic? It's pretty sweet. If so, I could post a pic of me and my supah scootah. ;)
{Wheels.2.22}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 02 Feb 2005 13:55:08 CST (3 lines)
I see a place to attach a file at the bottom of mine, but that may be a host feature. Do you have such a thing under the posting box on yours?
{Wheels.2.23}: Daniel Hagerty {bigdaddy} Wed, 02 Feb 2005 14:01:21 CST (1 line)
No.
{Wheels.2.24}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 02 Feb 2005 14:06:15 CST (1 line)
Lemme look into it, then.

Hi I'm still new around here and not really an automotive person, but I do have transportation needs beyond walkable, which are met for the most part by public transportation and my kick scooter. I am currently looking to expanding my range. Have zip cars ever been a topic in this forum? And if so, can I still go there? If not - I'm curious as to whether any cafe members have had experience with them. Thanks for any input
