Post notices of where and when your work will be in a show, gallery,
and/or exhibition so that people can come see it! :)

My Mom and I are both in the Richmond (California)Art Center Members
Only show again this year... come by and take a look if you're in the
SF Bay Area! The reception is tomorrow, Oct. 2nd, from 3 - 6 pm and
the show is up through November 5th, 2004. The RAC URL is:

Cool, Carla.

I'd drop by for sure if I still lived in the neighborhood! :-)

Would love to see the show, Carla.

I just got word on Wednesday that my request for an exhibition at
Fotografiens Hus (Photography House) gallery in Oslo has been
accepted. I'll have the space from March 3 until April 5. The show
will feature color night-time and neon images from America, made
over the past 25 years.

The opening will be Thursday evening, March 3. If you're in the Oslo
area - drop on by. See their website (English page) at:

http://www.institusjonsfotografene.no/utstilling_aktuell.lasso

That's great, David!

Bravo!!!!

Wah-hoo! Congrats!

{Photography.71.8}: Myra {southsage} Sat, 02 Oct 2004 20:53:15 CDT (HTML)

Wonderful recognition, David!

But I couldn't find the English page :-(

Congratulations David! Hooray!

{Photography.71.10}: David Burke {tualatin} Sun, 03 Oct 2004 04:00:43 CDT (22 lines)

Thanks very much everyone.

Myra, sorry, Photograph House itself only has Norwegian text. See
their site at:

www.fotografiens-hus.no/default.lasso

For pics of exhibition space, see:

www.fotografiens-hus.no/utstilling_interesse.lasso

The only related English page is on the website of one of the many
foundations and associations, IFF, that supports Photograph House as
a venue for exhibiting photographers. See IFF at:

www.institusjonsfotografene.no/iff/english.lasso

The Photograph House gallery is tied to several different
photography groups - representing press, art, ad, nature,
institutional and other shooters. You can see all their websites if
you click on "foreninger" at top right of IFF page. It all gets a
bit convoluted.

That is wonderful David!

{Photography.71.12}: Carla Patterson {carla} Mon, 11 Oct 2004 13:03:47 CDT (12 lines)

David: If only we were close enough to come! That's a fantastic honor
and I'd love to see your photographs, especially your view of America
over the past 25 years. :)

BTW, there is a photograph up on my fotolog right now that is in the
same vein as what I have up in the Richmond Art Center, albeit a very
different effect. I am doing extreme magnification of living plants
and they end up being like abstract paintings though I don't alter
them a pixel from the time I take them to the time I show them. Come
take a look if you have the time:

Thanks, Carla. Checked out your site. Cool concept, cool pix. A
friend of mine is in SFO now visiting family. Will suggest he stop
by Richmond Art Center.

Stopped by Oslo's Kunstnershus gallery yesterday. Some very strong
photography there now by Swedish Simen Johan. His portrayals of
childhood especially moving, even disturbing. Check his work out at:
www.simenjohan.com

{Photography.71.15}: Carla Patterson {carla} Mon, 18 Oct 2004 14:27:18 CDT (6 lines)

Thanks David. :)

I have looked throught Johan's most recent work so far - I can see
what you mean both interms of them being moving and sometimes even
disturbing. Really interesting photographs. Thanks for sharing!
I'll go back and see more.

{Photography.71.16}: Scott Butki {scoop} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 11:37:43 CDT (23 lines)

I posted this today at two of the critique sites I frequent:

My first art show is coming up fast.

If you can please look at my new and improved online gallery at:
http://www.photoshowdown.com/gallery/Sbutki

It is from those pictures (most of which contests on other sites) that
I need to choose from as far as which to try to sell framed, which
unframed, etc. For the first show I can put up three framed ones. I
value everyone's opinions here and can use some help. I've been
somewhat awol in here because I've been writing a portfolio to get
into the teachers masters program while at the same time trying to
find the originals, i.e. the large resolution versions, for some of
these pictures. Thanks

----------

Oh and a new question: What's the best way to go about deciding on
prices for sales? I want to go low but not too low.
I was thinking I'd just figure out the cost of supplies and add like
$25. Is this about right? I know it depends
on the market and the audience and such.

{Photography.71.17}: David {david} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 12:57:25 CDT (3 lines)

Totally different field, but I had a cousin who sold wood-working
stuff. His rule of thumb was three times the cost of materials. If
that helps any.

{Photography.71.18}: Doug White {dwhite} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 13:00:51 CDT (4 lines)

It's hard to add on an hourly labor rate when the shutter only opens
for a fraction of a second.

:)

--------

{Photography.71.19}: David Burke {tualatin} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 15:06:06 CDT (3 lines)

Go high, Scott. Create the perception that the work is worth the
asking price. How high depends on what you already indicated, "I
know it depends on the market and audience..."

{Photography.71.20}: David {david} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 15:18:36 CDT (HTML)

When Kitty and I were in Charleston this weekend, we went into several art galleries, looking around. She said, and I agree... If this shit sells for THAT much? Some of you people need to get off your asses and start SELLING stuff!

I bought this print for $160. Framed and ready to hang. I know darn well it isn't the highest quality of art, but compared to the $3000 stuff we saw, I got a BARGAIN.

Well, it works in the room I put it in, so shuddup.

--------

{Photography.71.22}: Coyote {coyote} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 16:05:40 CDT (3 lines)

Hey, it's purdy. Don't apologize.
Jeez, the frame and matting alone are worth what you paid.
Good deal!

--------

{Photography.71.23}: David {david} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 16:28:57 CDT (1 line)

It IS a large thing. It totally dominates that wall.

--------

{Photography.71.24}: Paddrick Mackin {paddrick} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 17:07:38 CDT (4 lines)

David, I agree with Coyote. Said another way, you visited a store
that sell frames and includes a photo to show off the frame. From
what I can see and what I have paid for frames, you got a deal at
$160 for the "cradle."

{Photography.71.25}: David {david} Tue, 19 Oct 2004 17:36:12 CDT (3 lines)

No, not a photo, a *print*.

Ooooo... Ahhh.... (LOL!)
