I don't believe I saw...

--------

{Wheels.9.1}: 92 SVX, 59 TBird, 68 F250 {fvehafric} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 12:40:45 EST (4 lines)

As I was pulling out of the Universtity parking lot I saw a personal
plate in front of me on a newer Volvo "Dr. Ruth". I pulled along
side, and sure enough. Well, she was female and really really old, so
I'm pretty sure...

{Wheels.9.2}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 25 Feb 2004 13:17:14 EST (1 line)

You're sure it was a Volvo? Perhaps she needs some vowels changed...

{Wheels.9.4}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Fri, 27 Feb 2004 08:37:40 EST (6 lines)

You know, it was bad enough when they started putting out pickups in
that "sporty" bright yellow color...

This morning, I saw a brand new 2004 Ford F150 on a dealer's lot that
was painted this weird bright orange on the sides, front and back ...
and BLACK on the hood and roof! WTF?

--------

{Wheels.9.5}: Jack Van Gossen {lowjack} Fri, 27 Feb 2004 10:34:47 EST (3 lines)

Harley Davidson limited edition.

Orange & Black are Harley's corporate colors.

--------

{Wheels.9.6}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Fri, 27 Feb 2004 10:45:59 EST (2 lines)

Ah. That would explain the colors. But, the paint scheme is just all
wrong. Have you seen it?

--------

{Wheels.9.7}: William Maloney {qajaq} Fri, 27 Feb 2004 12:51:48 EST (HTML)

Oh, you should see some of the rigs (and houses) around Gainesville, home of the Gators, whose team colors are blue and orange . . . it would be hard to think of a more hideous combination, and some of the color schemes in which it's used seem designed specifically to make the worst of it.

--------

{Wheels.9.8}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Fri, 27 Feb 2004 12:55:22 EST (1 line)

Ha!

--------

{Wheels.9.9}: Melanie {storm59} Fri, 27 Feb 2004 12:57:22 EST (3 lines)

Speaking as a Gainesville native, I can verify that....I recently
saw a PT Cruiser done up in Gator colors. *shudder* And I LIKE PT
Cruisers!

{Wheels.9.10}: William Maloney {qajaq} Fri, 27 Feb 2004 15:05:01 EST (HTML)

I just knew, as soon as I posted that, that someone affiliated with UF would show up here! Glad it didn't offend, Melanie.

<<But, the paint scheme is just all wrong. Have you seen it?>>

Yep. I'm more partial to the all-black with the orange stripe/flame
graphics.

Not that I'll ever have the opportunity to choose which Harley
Super-crew I want...

{Wheels.9.12}: Jil {rabbit} Sat, 28 Feb 2004 08:12:51 EST (3 lines)

Is THAT what it is? I saw one of those trucks yesterday. I thought
it belonged to Diamond Taxicab, a Toronto company that uses that
color scheme!

--------

{Wheels.9.13}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Mon, 01 Mar 2004 08:34:44 EST (2 lines)

ha! you should have asked the driver. I bet you would have gotten
one hell of a withering look!

--------

{Wheels.9.14}: Jil {rabbit} Mon, 01 Mar 2004 12:11:59 EST (1 line)

Oh, most likely!

--------

{Wheels.9.15}: Ben Conover {benc} Mon, 01 Mar 2004 18:59:47 EST (20 lines)

A pimped out Volvo DL today.

I kid you not.

Tinted windows, metallic blue paint job, lowered suspension, and
those small tires that stick out from the wheelwells.

And don't even get me started about the chrome add-ons.

Painfully ugly?

God, yes.

rabbit,

I posted this question last week, but it got archived so I figured
I'd toss it out again: of all of the cars that you've reviewed which
one for you, was "The Best Car Ever," and which one made you
think, "And they are trying to foist this piece of S off on the
public and make them pay actual money for it?!?"

{Wheels.9.16}: Jil {rabbit} Mon, 01 Mar 2004 19:43:17 EST (22 lines)

Well, as I said in the old forum, it's a tough question, because
there really isn't a "best" or "worst". They all have good points
and bad ones, and it depends on what you want them to do.

It also depends on what you like. I love big, wallowy North American
sedans, and so I adore cars like the Chrysler Concorde where sports-
minded drivers consider them landfill.

My favorite car, for handling and driving pleasure, was the BMW
325ci convertible. But it was cramped and expensive. For
practicality I love the Hyundai Santa Fe (actually, I like pretty
much everything Hyundai makes). For low-buck fun, the Echo
hatchback, but only with the TRD suspension.

I've not driven anything I'd call an out-and-out piece of crap.
There are no Yugos anymore. Again, they have good and bad points.
You need a paper bag over your head to get into an Aztec, for
example, but they're very functional inside. Kia tends to have
grotty drivelines, but their cabins are fairly well done, especially
in their upper lines. About the closest I came to disliking a car
was the Chevrolet Optra (it's the Suzuki Forenza to US buyers) but
even it had some good points.

At one low ebb in our lives, my wife actually owned a Yugo. We kept
it almost a year.

The vehicle that I've owned that I most enjoyed driving was a 1976
Dodge Power Wagon. It was the first vehicle I ever bought brand new,
and I just got the best feeling sitting in that thing. Like I'd come
home. Haven't quite got it again.

{Wheels.9.19}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Tue, 02 Mar 2004 04:40:48 EST (2 lines)

Volvo 240s aren't really ugly, except for the older ones with
square headlights. It's just a matter of taste.

--------

{Wheels.9.20}: Jil {rabbit} Mon, 08 Mar 2004 18:43:25 EST (7 lines)

I guess this is a "I don't believe I see". I picked up a Honda CR-V
today. No back visibility whatsoever! The window's too small, the
headrests are too high, and the wiper doesn't sweep all the way
over. No wonder people drive these things so poorly.

On another tangent, I interviewed Jay Leno today. 80 cars and 80
bikes. Man, am I jealous!

--------

{Wheels.9.21}: Doug White {dwhite} Mon, 08 Mar 2004 18:57:21 EST (1 line)

Leno has a Y2K turbine-powered motorcycle. I hate him. :)

--------

{Wheels.9.22}: Jil {rabbit} Mon, 08 Mar 2004 21:06:39 EST (1 line)

He's also building a steam-powered one. Really.

--------

{Wheels.9.23}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Tue, 09 Mar 2004 08:00:51 EST (1 line)

Really? That's pretty cool!

--------

{Wheels.9.24}: Doug White {dwhite} Tue, 09 Mar 2004 10:31:04 EST (1 line)

I hope it has a whistle instead of a horn, ha ha.

--------

{Wheels.9.25}: Nigel {nigel} Fri, 12 Mar 2004 06:19:36 EST (1 line)

I finally saw a Porsche Cayenne. It looks Japanese to me.
