Do You Judge People By What They Drive?

--------

{Wheels.15.48}: 92 SVX, 59 TBird, 68 F250 {fvehafric} Tue, 19 Apr 2005 12:50:32 CDT (1 line)

I drove my last one for 340K miles. Have I ever mentioned that?

What model and year was it?

{Wheels.15.50}: 92 SVX, 59 TBird, 68 F250 {fvehafric} Wed, 20 Apr 2005 00:36:01 CDT (1 line)

1992 legacy wagon, standard tranmission.

Do you still have it Frank, or did it finally bite the dust?

My 2000 Maxima now has 66,000 miles on it. I'm hoping to get to at
least 150,000, which means probably 5 more years.

Took it in for service today, and looked at the new ones, just for
fun. I like mine so much better!

I'm still semi-lusting over a used Volvo convertible, though, as a
possible second car. We'll see. Probably won't come to that, but it
would be fun.

The car died in a head on crash which I walked away from uninjured
except for bumps and bruises. I'm a beleiver in Subarus.

Ouch!

Hope your insurance paid off and you got a deposit toward the next one.

My old Stanza got totalled in a crash when someone ran a red light
against me, exactly one day after I thought "hmm, wonder if I should
think about looking for a new car."

The day came a lot sooner and more forcefully than I had planned!
(Fortunately only harm was to car, not to people.)

My 95 VW Jetta has passed 160K miles. I'm keeping my fingers crossed
that it keeps going because we're now shopping for a new house.

I'm in the same boat with a 95 Accord. I only drive it to work, which
is 8 miles away, so I'm hoping it will hold out until next year (when
we plan to buy a house).

--------

{Wheels.15.56}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Thu, 21 Apr 2005 13:36:03 CDT (1 line)

I put 40+ per day on mine!

--------

{Wheels.15.57}: just me {digem} Thu, 21 Apr 2005 15:40:01 CDT (1 line)

whoa. Traffic jams too? or is it an easy commute?

--------

{Wheels.15.58}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Thu, 21 Apr 2005 16:37:35 CDT (11 lines)

It really depends. Somes days are better than others. Mornings are
usually better than evenings. In general, I'm going against the
majority of commuters.

The worst for me is getting around/through downtown Mpls. (I live on
the south side of Mpls.) on my way to my office (N.W. suburb of the
metro area).

I would say that I easily average about 70 MPH. In the mornings, I
can get from home to work in about 30 minutes. The commute home is
definitely worse.

Im going to clear up some things. First of all who cares what other
people drive...If they worked hard and can afford it why should you
be jealous and stereotype them as assholes? afterall they didnt just
wake up one day with money. There is no reason to ridicule someone
for having nice things because you failed at making enough money to
have them or say "driving a car around that cost what a home does is
stupid". Some people don't care what kind of car they drive and
others do thats the plain simplicity of it. I saw a football player
driving around a mitsubishi meanwhile he has millions of dollars ,
what does that tell you? Someone said they drive a Saturn - I look
at people that drive those cars as idiots just because they are ugly
and it makes perfect sense if your driving one of those around to be
pissed off at someone driving a BMW cause the car is alot nicer then
a saturn. It all boils down to jealousy. On the other hand if I see
someone driving around an expensive car sometimes I could think of a
different car i'd rather have spending that kind of money. Don't
look down on people for having nice cars..I drive an infiniti FX45
and I dont roll my window down and shout "Hey everybody look at me
im an asshole because I can afford a nice car." I could write
volumes about this but it can be easily simplified using one word
(JEALOUSY) I even have people flick me off when Im driving just
because they are jealous but im not going to drive a piece of junk
car just so I can fit in and not be called an asshole

"Just so you can fit in." as if. You're such a rebel for driving an
SUV, ha ha.

--------

{Wheels.15.61}: David {dkopec} Wed, 04 May 2005 14:35:11 CDT (2 lines)

As long as your windows are rolled down in this topic, how do you
explain that twinge of jealousy I detect toward Saturn owners?

--------

{Wheels.15.62}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Wed, 04 May 2005 16:37:51 CDT (1 line)

That smell... Troll. Welcome to Utne.

--------

{Wheels.15.63}: just me {digem} Wed, 04 May 2005 16:54:03 CDT (1 line)

heh. You're just jealous.

--------

{Wheels.15.64}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Wed, 04 May 2005 17:18:40 CDT (2 lines)

Why would I be jealous of someone who gets to spend $40+ a week to
fill their gas tank? I laugh at those people.

--------

{Wheels.15.65}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Wed, 04 May 2005 17:20:44 CDT (2 lines)

Jealous of someone who drives an FX45? I wouldn't wish that ugly
thing on my worst enemy.

--------

{Wheels.15.66}: Rich Stewart {rastewart} Wed, 04 May 2005 17:28:23 CDT (HTML)

Joseph! Have a beer! ;)

Nobody in *this* corner of the room thinks you'd be jealous!

--------

{Wheels.15.67}: David Kopec {dkopec} Wed, 04 May 2005 19:31:49 CDT (6 lines)

At the risk of straying off-topic, I have to ask this. Is it okay for
me to judge people by how they write? Bully for John Doe (nice name)
and his pride in ownership of the mighty FX45. Let him have it
bronzed and mounted on the mantle to enjoy in pristine splendor.

I hope I don't have to be jealous of his spelling and grammar, though.

--------

{Wheels.15.68}: Doug White {dwhite} Wed, 04 May 2005 20:34:18 CDT (HTML)

Don't be so elitist, Joe. Heh.

--------

{Wheels.15.69}: 92 SVX, 59 TBird, 68 F250 {fvehafric} Wed, 04 May 2005 21:45:39 CDT (1 line)

I reserve the right to judge people on any damn thing I choose.

--------

{Wheels.15.70}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Thu, 05 May 2005 09:00:49 CDT (3 lines)

I practice my right to laugh out loud at the morons who've managed to
spin out their SUVs on every snowy day while I motor along in my FWD
VW Jetta.

--------

{Wheels.15.71}: Frank Rizzo {cuttaxes} Wed, 02 Aug 2006 09:27:33 CDT (24 lines)

Do I judge people by what they drive? Absolutely. But differently
that what has been the typical post on this thread.

When I see someone who has put a homemade spoiler on the back of
their car I can only think "idiot."

When I see someone who has put an oversize, clearly not made for the
car, and not functional accessories such as a giant spoiler I again
think idiot.

When I see someone with japanese writing on their non-japanese car
because they think its "cool" I again think Idiot. Of course, I
think the same thing when I see it on japanese cars as well.
Especially since I guarantee you the person driving the car couldn't
read a single word of Japanese. And they probably think it will
make their car go faster.

But the winner in the "I think You're A Moron, and yes, you are a
Moron" catagory is the person who spends several months income on a
set of rims for their car. Especially when the rims cost more than
the car itself! These people should be exiled to Idiot Island.

I could continue on other things as well, but I won't.

Good rant!
