"Idle" Chatter

--------

{Wheels.12.1}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 11:06:16 EST (8 lines)

I thought this might be the place for conversation that really
doesn't fit into other topics and doesn't need a spot of its own...

I picked up the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution today. Holy f**k. We
can't get them here in Canada, since they don't meet bumper
standards.

I consider it a major coup that I got it home with my license intact.

Ha!

Does the street version of the Evo come with AWD?

--------

{Wheels.12.3}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 11:51:42 EST (6 lines)

Yes. And 250hp. And a turbo. Woo hoo!

I'm going to take it up to the spot where all the tuner crowd hangs
around; I hope they're out tonight. I think it's going to be
hilarious for this Holy Grail car to pull up, and a gray-haired
older woman driving it...

Am I to infer from all this allusion and jargon that the vehicle in question is a sporty, speedy little car?

(And, BTW, what possible use would a "holy fork" be?)

:-)

{Wheels.12.5}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 12:10:09 EST (5 lines)

Holy fork is what priests use to eat their dinner.

Yes, indeed, it's sporty and speedy. One sweet little machine. I
couldn't see buying one; you constantly have your foot in the oil
pan.

Mitsubishi's Lancer Evo page (with a link to their "mini-site"):

Yes, that's the one. Mine's screamer yellow. But apparently it's 271
hp (I got the car without any info, because it's not an official
review).

--------

{Wheels.12.8}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 13:43:11 EST (4 lines)

Yup. 271bhp@6xxx RPM.

Lucky you! Enjoy it while you have it! (Though I'm sure you didn't
need me to tell you that.)

--------

{Wheels.12.9}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 13:46:51 EST (2 lines)

I only have it until Friday morning, alas. But I'll see if I can go
without getting a ticket until then.

I've heard they are hot performers. I've seen them, and I don't know
what the fuss is about, looks-wise. I don't think they look very good
at all.

{Wheels.12.12}: Daniel Hagerty {bigdaddy} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 18:12:12 EST (1 line)

FINALLY Mitsu comes out with a screamer.

--------

{Wheels.12.13}: Jil {rabbit} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 20:24:42 EST (10 lines)

It's a screamer, all right. I put 152 miles on it today.

When I first got it, I took it from the office, turned the corner,
headed up the street. Through the gears in nothing flat. Looked at
the speedo. Thought, "Hmm, all that noise and fuss for just 80
km/hr?" Then I remembered that it's an American car, and that's 80
MILES per hour.

It's smooth as silk at 100 mph. And that turbo whine is the sweetest
sound on the planet.

{Wheels.12.14}: Sandra Oliva {latina} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 22:21:21 EST (6 lines)

No wonder is my son's favorite car. BTW he has been accepted
to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena to study
Transportation Design, his passion since a little child.

I also wanted to mention that the Honda Civic was reviewed as
the most economic car. I am proud to own one and not a SUV.

--------

{Wheels.12.15}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 22:36:42 EST (2 lines)

It's the Insight that has the best fuel economy. The new Prius is
better on gas than the Civic Hybrid, IIRC.

--------

{Wheels.12.16}: Sandra Oliva {latina} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 22:39:22 EST (2 lines)

The news said Honda Civics and they actually showed a picture
of the Si....maybe the Hybrids are in a different category.

--------

{Wheels.12.17}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 23:13:33 EST (2 lines)

What did you mean by 'economic'? Fuel economy? Overall cost of
ownership over time?

--------

{Wheels.12.18}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 23:15:03 EST (4 lines)

If they didn't include hybrids, then the Civic HX may be the
non-hybrid with the highest MPG, although it really isn't all that
high, IMO: in the low thirties for city, high thirties for highway,
IIRC.

--------

{Wheels.12.19}: Sandra Oliva {latina} Wed, 10 Mar 2004 23:26:21 EST (3 lines)

Fuel economy, the news stated 40 mpg. I guess my point is that
I agree the Civics are super-economic, this is the second I've
owned and I owned a SUV before.

--------

{Wheels.12.20}: Michael Cerkowski {michael33} Thu, 11 Mar 2004 04:49:01 EST (3 lines)

Back in the '80's, before cars started to grow, the Civics were
actually better on gas. One model topped 50mpg on the highway. CAFE
standards really do have an effect on what gets built.

--------

{Wheels.12.21}: Jil {rabbit} Thu, 11 Mar 2004 07:17:58 EST (2 lines)

I like Honda Civics. I've driven the Civic sedan, SiR and the Acura
EL (same car). I'll get the Civic hybrid in a couple of weeks.

--------

{Wheels.12.22}: William Maloney {qajaq} Thu, 11 Mar 2004 07:34:01 EST (HTML)

My mother had a Civic for several years and swears by it. I couldn't get in it without knocking my hat off (and I'm not a tall person).

{Wheels.12.23}: Joseph Kang {jsk} Thu, 11 Mar 2004 08:13:34 EST (4 lines)

> FINALLY Mitsu comes out with a screamer.

In the US that is. It's been available in Japan (and maybe Europe)
for years...

--------

{Wheels.12.24}: Doug White {dwhite} Thu, 11 Mar 2004 11:08:59 EST (2 lines)

Jil, it's cool they let you out of the economy car ghetto now and
again, you deserve it! Go EVO! :)

--------

{Wheels.12.25}: Mike McCarty {beagle} Thu, 11 Mar 2004 13:01:48 EST (2 lines)

I've admired Evos for years, three years ago saw one (a IV, I think)
running around Rumford, Maine with Queensland plates. Very, very cool.
